obstetrics · gynaecology · fertilityEmbryo freezing
Freezing surplus embryos following IVF and ICSI is common practice and Mr Cowan recommends it if your embryos are of sufficient quality.
By freezing embryos you may give yourself more than one chance of becoming pregnant from one egg collection, and may not have to go through the whole IVF or ICSI process again.
Embryos that have been frozen and then thawed are slightly less likely to lead to pregnancy than freshly produced embryos. On the other hand, babies born from frozen embryos are no more likely to have birth defects than those born from fresh embryos or following natural conception.
